With the coming of Web 2.0 - Watch for excellent new Opportunities in SEO

By John Alexander

Have you noticed nearly every Web marketer pitching Web 2.0 because it is the way of the future. After all, if you are a smart business person the best use of Web and the most profitable has always been about relationships. People have the need to express themselves. To share their opinions. Just look at the aspect of Blogging and how amazing it is to see a Blog nearly become like some living breathing entity.

Information is exchanged through Bloggers these days faster than the 6 O'clock news or traditional media ever have done. Look for example at Web 2.0 interactive social media sites like Facebook.com which can reconnect you with real world friends you have not spoken to in years. Look at all of the various social medial communities popping up everywhere along with bookmarking sites and the popularity of Web 2.0 in places like Squidoo.com or Twitter.com.

But there is something even bigger that most people are missing out on altogether this days about SEO and search engine optimization. Where the confusion comes in, is from conflicting research results, mixed up messages and certain confusion from writers or marketers who say SEO is dead - (because it appears to be dead) to them.

The good news is that search engine optimization is ALIVE - probably with more opportunity than ever before.

SEO Alive to those who gain up-to-date understanding:

Notice that no one ever addresses "how SEO died" or "why SEO died" but because they don't understand the challenges and the changes they are making a huge assumption that SEO MUST be dead. What they need to understand - they do not. Besides, saying something is dead makes a great way to push some new tool or system to convince your audience they always need something new if it is a typical marketer. Where some "Web Gurus" focus on telling you that everyone one else is wrong - or perhaps you are being lied too. I disagree. For the most part, where there are conflicting opinions, I don't think people are telling lies. It think they are finding things they "think to be truth," but everyone is conflicting for very good reasons.

It is like someone trying to build a better rank checking tool because they are convinced all of the other tools are garbage. The trouble or challenge does not lay with the other tools.

What people need to realize is that coming of Web 2.0 is a great thing - however, the art and the science of search engine optimization or SEO is very much alive with even greater opportunities than ever before. Greater opportunities because so few of people out there really have solid understanding of what has changed.

They don't understand the challenges let alone have the solution. SEO is alive and well and there is opportunity like never before for those who care to learn. The smartest thing for any business person to do...is to "get understanding."

How has SEO been traditionally taught?
For many people it has been self study, which is fine. Maybe picking up bits of advice at some conference. Maybe reading free forums, maybe by reason of practice. Then others have invested in SEO training courses online. Others may have come out to a hands-on SEO Workshop. Some belong to membership sites.

Many have learn the science of SEO often through trial and error. Up until recently, people were bound on "best practices" which have always made great guidelines in the past. Regardless of how you learned, it is safe to say that through different ways you learned "how." That is not all there is though.

It is good to know "how to do things" and in what order to do things but the one element 99% of most people miss out on is about understanding "why" you do things a specific way. If you do not understand "why" and if you only know "how" then you will continually hit bumps in your journey and feel left in the dark "thinking that this is the only way" things can be done. So many think that it must be this way because someone told someone who told someone who told you (long after the rules have changed.) And they are still changing.

SEO is very much alive, (to anyone who understands the changes that have occurred.)

I estimate many of the Webmasters out there (including many professional SEO firms) don't quite understand what has been happening. They are relying on traditional knowledge of "best practices" and "How things have been done in the past." So many have never sought to understand the "why factor" so when industry rules change, they are not left in the dark. "Thus you get....Oh well, I guess SEO must be dead." But it's not.

Some of the biggest changes are occurring in the industry right now. Do you need help to get understanding?
